Understanding the Himalayas

The mighty Himalayas have long fascinated explorers, climbers, and adventurers — but never before has the entire range been mapped and celebrated through the lens of pure rock climbing. Himalayan Rocks, by renowned German alpinist Kai Maluck, is the first-ever comprehensive rock climbing guidebook dedicated to the vast and diverse Himalayas, spanning Pakistan, India, Nepal, Bhutan and Tibet.

Blending breathtaking photography, geography and the thrill of vertical adventure, this book is more than a guide — it is a journey through landscapes, cultures and the spirit of climbing. Whether you’re a seasoned mountaineer, a local climber or an armchair explorer, this session will introduce you to the hidden vertical worlds of the Himalayas.

About the Speaker:

Kai Maluck is a celebrated German alpinist, geographer, and mountaineer, passionate about high-altitude exploration. With decades of climbing experience, he has ventured across some of the world’s most challenging peaks. Himalayan Rocks is his second book on mountaineering, reflecting not only his expertise but his deep connection with the Himalayan landscapes and communities.

Compiled in close collaboration with leading climbers across South Asia, his work bridges the gap between adventure, culture, and nature — inspiring both visitors and local climbers to discover the Himalayas beyond the usual trails.
