Mentors

Gohar Irfan

PhD Computer Science (Operating Systems, Cloud Computing)
EECS PhD candidate at Massachusetts Institute of Technology

Working on improving the resource efficiency of cloud computing infrastructure. This involves working on the boundary of software and emerging hardware technologies with the goal of maximizing performance of modern applications (e.g., artificial intelligence) while minimizing the resource usage (e.g., power, carbon footprint).

Isaaq Khan

PhD Cancer Neurobiology (Neurooncology)
Senior Scientist at MIT Media Lab

Working on developing novel therapeutic strategies for tumors that are resistant to standard treatments. His current focus is on wireless brain implantation of nano-sized chips to revolutionize the treatment of brain cancer patients. These groundbreaking therapeutic approaches not only promise hope for various cancer types, but also hold the potential to transform the landscape of previously untreatable neurological disorders, including Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases.

Qandeel Tariq

BS Computer Science (focus on Data Science), MS in Education Technology
Data Scientist at Khan Academy

She has a background in Computer Science with a focus on Education Technology/Data Science. She is currently working at Khan Academy as a Data Scientist where she evaluates the efficacy of different product features against learner engagement and create metrics for learner/teacher success.

Rimsha Mehmood

PhD Chemistry
Senior Scientist at Merck

She has a background in computational chemistry. She is currently working at Merck Research Labs as a Senior Scientist within the modelling and informatics team of their Discovery Chemistry division. In her work, she uses computational modelling tools to contribute to therapeutic drug discovery, accelerating the development of drugs for different disease indications including oncology and cardiovascular diseases.

Saaid Arshad

PhD Biomedical Engineering, A.B Engineering Sciences (Electrical Engineering and Computer Science)
Technical Staff at MIT Lincoln Laboratory (Signal and Image Processing)

He is currently working on a variety of projects that involve analysis and algorithm development of biomedical data for different applications using modalities such as wearable sensors and medical imaging like computed tomography (CT) and ultrasound (US).

Sohaib Abdul Rehman

PhD Electrical Engineering (optical and electron microscopy)
Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Harvard University

His research is at the intersection of engineering, physics, and biology. He develops bioimaging methods to study cellular processes. These tools help us understand how cells, the building blocks of life, function, and aid in developing diagnostic and therapeutic tools.
