From Revelation to Dystopia: The story of Post Apocalyptic Literature
From the fires of Revelation to the wastelands of Mad Max, humanity has always imagined what comes after the end. Post-apocalyptic fiction is not only a genre of ruined cities and desperate survivors, but also a mirror of our deepest cultural fears and longings for renewal. This lecture journeys through apocalyptic storytelling across history – religious prophecies, mythic floods, medieval plagues, Romantic ruins, nuclear nightmares, climate collapse, and even zombie outbreaks – revealing how each age rewrote the end of the world in its own image. In exploring these narratives of destruction and survival, we uncover why tales of the apocalypse continue to captivate us, and what they reveal about the fragile hopes we carry into an uncertain future.
