Maulana Khanzeb – A People’s Hero Assassinated

Maulana Khanzeb Shaheed (1980 – 2025) was more than an Islamic scholar, political leader, and author – he was a voice for peace in one of Pakistan’s most turbulent regions. As a committed member of the Awami National Party (ANP), his life’s work combined religious guidance with social service, and a tireless struggle for harmony and justice in Bajaur and beyond.

On 10 July 2025, his life was cut short when unidentified assailants shot him dead in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Bajaur district. His assassination is not only a personal loss for his family and community but also a profound blow to the broader struggle for peace, coexistence, and dignity in the region.

In this session, we reflect on Maulana Khanzeb’s life, legacy and vision. What does his loss mean for the people of Bajaur, for Pakistan’s political and social fabric, and for the dream of a peaceful, pluralistic future.
