Pakistan’s Blue Frontier: An Introduction to Maritime Affairs & the Blue Economy
With over 1,000 kilometers of coastline and a strategically vital position along the Arabian Sea, Pakistan’s maritime domain holds immense economic, environmental and geopolitical significance. Yet maritime affairs and the blue economy remain underexplored in public discourse.
This session introduces the concept of the blue economy – the sustainable use of ocean resources for economic growth, improved livelihoods and environmental stewardship – and examines Pakistan’s maritime potential in areas such as ports and shipping, fisheries, coastal development, energy resources, and maritime security.
The discussion will explore both opportunities and challenges: How can Pakistan harness its coastal and marine resources responsibly? What role do ports like Gwadar and Karachi play in regional trade? How does maritime strategy intersect with national security and climate concerns?
An essential conversation on why Pakistan’s future prosperity may well depend on how effectively it engages with its blue frontier.
About the Speaker:
Dr. Hasan Yaser Malik holds Master Degrees in English, International Relations, and Special Education. He did Ph.D. in International Relations, his thesis is titled as ‘Strategic Significance of Gwadar Deep Sea Port: Regional and extra regional dimensions’. Author has also authored, six books about maritime geopolitics, blue economy, social development and climate change. The author has over a dozen of International Research Contributions to his credit and has more than 57,571 of readers across the globe and 242 citations. His research area of interest is related to China, Maritime Affairs, Blue Diplomacy and Economy. He is associated with various research and academic intuitions and is also an editorial team member with over a dozen of International Research Journals. Author has served as part of United Nations in Africa. He has authored and edited three annual books as part of corporate experience. He has led various projects of social and business development. Presently, he is pursuing to study International Law. Apart from Research he has interest in Flying and Deep Sea Diving. Dr. is widely travelled and can be contacted through hasanyaser91@gmail.com
