The book “Zabaan aur Tehzeeb: Junoob Asiayi aur Maghribi Tanaazur” gathers a series of in-depth interviews in Urdu or translated into Urdu that reflect critically on the evolving place of Urdu language and literature within the European academic and cultural landscape, on Urdu and Urdu teaching in contemporary South Asia and on cross-cultural issues relating to the meeting of East and West through the study of language and cultural anthropology. Focusing primarily on research and teaching in Urdu at universities, the book offers a valuable insight into how South Asian languages, especially Urdu, are being cultivated, institutionalized, and reimagined in the context of migration, diaspora, and transnational scholarship in Europe.
