Book Launch: Maarka-e-Multan

Book Launch: Maarka-e-Multan

30 30 people viewed this event.

The book Maarka-e-Multan revisits one of the most decisive and turbulent episodes in the history of the subcontinent – the Siege of Multan (1848–49). This prolonged and intense conflict unfolded between the forces of the British East India Company and the Sikh Empire, ultimately shaping the course of the Second Anglo-Sikh War.

Sparked by a rebellion against a ruler installed by the East India Company, the siege soon evolved into a defining moment of resistance, power struggle, and imperial expansion. Through detailed narrative and historical insight, the book brings to life the military, political and human dimensions of the conflict, tracing how Multan became a focal point in the contest for control over Punjab.

This session will explore the historical context of the siege, its key actors, and its far-reaching consequences, while also reflecting on how such moments continue to influence our understanding of colonial history, resistance and regional identity today.
