An Evening with Anand Patwardhan

An Evening with Anand Patwardhan

34 34 people viewed this event.

Join us for a compelling conversation with Anand Patwardhan, one of South Asia’s most distinguished documentary filmmakers, whose work over four decades has consistently challenged dominant narratives and given voice to the marginalized. Known for his deeply researched and politically engaged cinema, Patwardhan’s films explore critical issues such as religious fundamentalism, sectarian violence, caste oppression, nuclear nationalism, and questions of development and justice.

From Bombay: Our City (1985) to The World is Family (2023), his award-winning body of work stands as a powerful testament to the role of cinema as a tool for inquiry, resistance and social reflection. His films do not merely document reality, they interrogate it, urging audiences to confront uncomfortable truths and rethink widely held assumptions.

Moderated by Dr. Pervez Hoodbhoy, this session will discuss Patwardhan’s filmmaking journey, the ethical and political responsibilities of documentary cinema and the challenges of speaking truth to power in deeply polarized societies.
