In 1960, physicist Eugene P. Wigner published his essay, “On The Unreasonable Effectiveness of Mathematics in Physics”. Why, he asked, is mathematics indispensable to understanding our physical world when, in fact, it was invented for completely different reasons?

This is a profound question which Dr. Pervez Hoodbhoy will explore in depth with simple examples that still continue to challenge our sensibilities and imagination.
