Theories of Humour: From Plato to Post-Structuralism
“Man is the only animal that laughs or is laughed at,” said Henri Bergson. Though laughter is a common physiological phenomenon, it has deep psychological and sociological roots and implications. Owing to its complexity, humour and laughter have attracted the attention of philosophers and psychologists throughout human history. This talk provides an overview of the theories of humour from Plato to Post-structuralism.
About the Speaker:
Dr Sheheryar Khan has been serving as an Associate Professor of English in HED, Punjab for 21 years. His doctoral research project was a reading of Milan Kundera’s fiction using Slavoj Zizek’s Parallax view. His main interest are literary and cultural theory, philosophy and psychoanalysis.
