Afghanistan’s Girls – Denied a Life but Still Fighting
This session sheds light on the resilience of Afghanistan’s girls who, despite the odds, continue to fight for their lives and dreams. Join us as we explore their stories, struggles, and the enduring spirit that propels them forward against all adversities.
About the Speaker:
Sola Mahfouz is an Afghan-born scientist and writer. She was barred from school at age 11, but she did not give up on her education. Fearlessly, she fought her way and self-taught herself from age 14. After many struggles, she came to the U.S. and now works at Tufts university as Quantum researcher. Her personal journey is documented in her memoir Defiant Dreams, published last year by Penguin Random House.
Moderator: Dr. Pervez Hoodbhoy
