Thar at a Crossroads: Navigating Threats and Prospects
Tharparkar, a desert region rich in cultural heritage and reliant on traditional livestock and agriculture, is facing significant upheaval with the Thar Coal Project. While the initiative promises economic progress under the slogan “Thar Badlando Pakistan” (Thar will change Pakistan), it has also brought disruption, affecting nearly half of Thar’s population. Traditional livelihoods, land rights, and the region’s natural and cultural landscapes are under threat, raising urgent concerns about forced resettlements and environmental degradation.
Join us for a critical discussion to explore these pressing challenges and seek pathways toward sustainable, equitable development for the Thari people.
