AgriTech: Panacea for the Agriculture Sector in Pakistan?
This short talk focuses on the agriculture sector of Pakistan and the speaker’s journey in this vast sector. Agriculture’s share in the GDP of Pakistan is 22.7%, it employs 38.5% of the labor force and the livelihood of almost 65% of the population of the country depends on agriculture. Despite these numbers and the claims of various governments agriculture remains amongst the most neglected sectors of the economy. The speaker will start the talk by sharing some eye opening and disturbing statistics about the agriculture sector. Moving on, he will talk about what is AgriTech and what they at BaKhabar Kissan are doing to facilitate the farmers. He will share what other AgriTechs in Pakistan and the region are doing and what impact they are having on the lives of farmers.
About the Speaker:
Dr. Fuad Imran Khan has worked in the IT and Telecom sector in Pakistan and abroad for over 3 decades. His interest in Agriculture and AgriTech started in 2014 when he was associated with Fatima Group. He is part of the founding team of BaKhabar Kissan, the leading AgriTech company in Pakistan. Fuad received his undergraduate education from MIT and his Ph.D. degree from the University of Michigan all in the previous century.
