Too often, Pashtun identity is reduced to one-dimensional images shaped by politics, media and conflict. But behind the headlines lies a rich and resilient culture—rooted in poetry and hospitality, and deeply attuned to values of community, dignity and resistance.

This session will discuss the lived spirit of Pashtun Culture—the soul of Pashtun culture—beyond clichés and generalisations. The speakers will share the beauty, complexity and evolving nature of Pashtun traditions in a changing world.

About the Speaker:

  • Dr. Abaseen Yousafzai is a celebrated poet and writer. He served as the Chairman of the Department of Pashto at Islamia College Peshawar. For his literary and cultural work, Dr. Yousafzai has been honored with prestigious presidential awards from both the Government of Pakistan and the Government of Afghanistan.

About the Moderator:

  • Ahmad Khan Khpalwak is a poet, writer and passionate promoter of Pashtun culture and literature. He holds an M.Phil degree from Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad. He has curated and led numerous literary and cultural programs across the region, offering platforms to celebrate and preserve the richness of Pashtun heritage.
