The purpose of this book is to provide the reader with the indispensable knowledge, awareness, treatment plans and scientific approach for autism. The concepts are premeditated with a balance of conceptual, practical, empirical and theoretical information to bridge the gap between research and everyday practice. While acknowledging empirical researches and models, this book provides practical strategies in the recent scientific research and practice in the field of autism.
About the author
Saima Akram is a Pakistani-Canadian who lives in Ottawa, Canada, and is a Psychologist/Behaviour Analysist with international work experience in the field of autism, psychology, counselling, psychotherapy, behaviour analysis and special education. Currently, she is working at Ottawa Carleton District School Board, Canada.
Saima is an author of numerous articles and editorials, as well as that of two books. Her first book “Autism & Behavioural Science” happens to be a comprehensive book on Autism Spectrum Disorder which promotes both knowledge and acceptance of individuals with ASD. Her second book titled “Behavioral Interventions and Strategies: A Practice Guide to Evidence Based Positive Approaches for Autism Spectrum Disorder” includes research-based interventions and treatment plans for individuals with ASD.
Saima was motivated to study the field of “Autism and Behavioural Science” because of the lack of awareness, understanding, acceptance and stigmatization encircling ASD in Pakistan. She has won multiple distinctions, awards of excellence, and medals of honour throughout her academic and professional career. She has been a member of American Psychological Association (APA) and Canadian Psychological Association (CPA). In Pakistan, she has served in vulnerable and least developed areas to investigate the complexity of challenges and opportunities for rural basic services.
Saima is passionate about equity and equitable access to mental health and special needs services. She aims to contribute her experience to find policy-based solutions to alleviate the social and cultural disparities for individuals with ASD and special needs.
