Known as the foremost ambassador for Muslim-West amity, Akbar S. Ahmed, professor at the American University (Washington DC) will first be engaged on this critically important question by Dr. Pervez Hoodbhoy – Do Muslims Fit in Europe? This will be followed by Q&A with the audience.

About the Guest Speaker:

Ambassador Akbar Ahmed is a globally acclaimed scholar, diplomat and interfaith advocate. Currently the Ibn Khaldun Chair of Islamic Studies at American University and a Wilson Center Global Fellow in Washington, D.C., he has held prestigious academic posts at institutions like Harvard, Princeton, Cambridge and the U.S. Naval Academy. Formerly Pakistan’s High Commissioner to the UK and Ireland, his distinguished civil service career included roles in Balochistan and the Tribal Areas.

Ambassador Ahmed is a prolific author, filmmaker, playwright, and public intellectual whose work spans Islamic studies, interfaith dialogue, and peacebuilding. He created the acclaimed BBC series Living Islam, produced the Jinnah Quartet which included Jinnah, a feature film starring Sir Christopher Lee, a documentary which was shown on channel 4 in the UK, an academic book published by Routledge and Oxford University Press, and a graphic novel published by OUP.

He continues to publish scholarly and creative works, including his recent play Gandhi and Jinnah Return Home and upcoming autobiography From Waziristan to Washington. He has received numerous honors including the Star of Pakistan, Gandhi Peace Award and American Book Award, and is widely praised—by figures such as Noam Chomsky and Lord Jonathan Sacks—as one of the most influential Muslim scholars and bridge-builders of our time.
