Farmer Suicides in India: A Humanitarian and Agrarian Crisis

445 445 people viewed this event.

Join us to know the heart-wrenching plight of Indian farmers as we shed light on the persisting distress in the farming sector. Over 400,000 Indian farmers have tragically taken their own lives from 1998 to 2018, and this crisis continues to haunt the agricultural community. Despite its immense magnitude, the issue has not received the necessary attention from policymakers and mainstream media. Join this lecture to explore the roots of risk and fragility in Indian agriculture, affecting over 50% of the population, and understand the wider agrarian crisis driven by government policies, Green Revolution strategies, and climate change. Drawing parallels to Pakistan’s Green Pakistan Initiative, we’ll discuss the relevance for our nation’s agricultural future.
