Join Ustad Muhammad Hanif to learn about intricate techniques of flute playing and explore the expressive Gayaki Ang style, as well as highlight the nuances between classical and light flute play. The session will be followed by a mesmerizing live demonstration, accompanied by the rhythmic brilliance of Ustad Sunny Jimmy Khan on Tabla. The session will be moderated by Prof. Shahbaz Ahmed.

About Ustad Muhammad Hanif:

Ustad Muhammad Hanif began his musical journey under the guidance of Pandit Chandan Das and Ustad Parvez Paras, and later learned Dhrupad music from Ustad Hafeez Khan of the Taalwandi Gharana. His flute recitals blend Dhrupad and Khayal styles, with a focus on emotional expression, volume control, and ‘meendh.’ Performing professionally since 1998, Ustad Hanif has graced national platforms such as PTV, APMC Lahore and Karachi, LMF, Al-Khayal Music Society, NAPA and many more. He has also represented classical music internationally and performed on online platforms like Takiya Online, Artists United, The Dream Journey and Sarb Akal. Currently, he teaches music at LUMS University and Lahore Grammar School.

About Sunny Jimmy Khan:

Anil Sunny, also known as Sunny Jimmy Khan, is an accomplished tabla player who began his musical journey at the tender age of four. Over the years, he has played with the legends of Pakistan and showcased his versatility across various genres including classical, light, semi-classical, folk, and solo performances. Anil has performed at prestigious international festivals, including events at the US Embassy and the Italian Embassy. His exceptional talent has earned him numerous achievement awards.

About Prof. Shahbaz Ali:

Prof. Shahbaz Ali, our esteemed moderator, is a multifaceted scholar, solo harmonium player and educator. A former Associate Professor of Urdu Literature at Government College, Satellite Rawalpindi, he is also a visiting Music Professor at the National College of Arts (NCA), Rawalpindi. Prof. Shahbaz Ali has authored three insightful books on music: “Tareekh-e-Mausiqee”, “Asbaaq e Mauseeqi” and the award-winning “Surr Sansaar.” His profound knowledge and passion for music make him an exceptional guide for this session.
