How Many Oranges Can One Fit in a Room?
2022 was a special year in Mathematics since the Fields Medal (which is the mathematical equivalent of the Nobel Prize) was awarded. Among others, the prize was awarded to the Ukrainian Mathematician Maryna Viozovska, who became the second woman to win this prestigious prize (the first being Maryam Mirzakhani who won the Fields Medal in 2014). Maryna Viozovska has solved the problem of Sphere Packing in higher dimensions. In this talk, the participants will get an overview of this problem, and will see how some of the results in Maryna’s solution were actually derived.
