Human Voluntary Actions and Free Will
In 1983, Benjamin Libet and his collaborators performed an experiment that is famously interpreted to show that our brains initiate the voluntary movement before our conscious awareness of having decided to move. This experiment sparked the controversy over the role of human intention in performing voluntary actions. In this interactive session, the speaker will discuss “Libet’s claim” in the light of recent research findings of human volition in neuroscience and explore its philosophical implications.
