Indus Water Treaty: Past, Present and Future
What is presently contained in the Indus Water Treaty (IWT) is one thing, but how that content came into being is another – and seldom talked about. This session connects the history of IWT with current political situation and extrapolates future scenarios which offer both the opportunities and threats. Finally, the session would cover some recommendations and way forward.
About the speaker
Hassan Abbas holds a PhD in hydrology and water resources from Michigan State University, in the US, and has worked in the water sector across three continents. In Pakistan, he was appointed as the first UNESCO chair for Integrated Water Resources Management. Currently, he is engaged in master planning for water supply and stormwater drainage systems for major cities in Pakistan.
