Preserving the Autonomy of Nursing and Allied Health

With the growing concerns around maintaining professional independence, we will explore the challenges faced by nursing and allied health sectors and discuss possible ways to preserve their autonomy. Experts from the field will provide insights, offer recommendations, and advocate for a future where nursing and allied health professionals continue to operate with autonomy for the benefit of the healthcare system and the national welfare.

Discussants:

  • Dr. Raisa Gul is the Professor and Dean of Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery at Shifa Tameer-e-Millat University, with a distinguished career spanning over 4.5 decades in nursing. She completed her basic nursing education in Pakistan and pursued advanced studies in Canada and Australia. Throughout her career, she has held key clinical and administrative roles and actively contributed to national and international organizations, including the World Health Organization (WHO), International Council of Nurses (ICN), Higher Education Commission (HEC), Health Care Commission (HCC) and Pakistan Nursing Council (PNC). In recognition of her outstanding contributions to the field, Dr. Gul was honored with the prestigious “Pride of Performance” award by the President of Pakistan.
  • Ms. Yasmeen Saggu is the Professor and Dean at Foundation University College of Nursing (FUCN), Islamabad, with a remarkable nursing career spanning over 50 years. She has held diverse clinical and administrative roles and is a recognized expert in nurse and midwife training. Ms. Saggu has contributed extensively to curriculum development and has facilitated numerous workshops for institutions both in Pakistan and abroad. As a longstanding member of the Pakistan Nursing Council (PNC), she continues to play an active role in curriculum development, as well as the inspection and accreditation of nursing institutions across the country.
  • Ms. Zahida Parveen is the former Principal of College of Nursing, Holy Family Hospital, Rawalpindi. She has held various clinical, teaching, and administrative positions in public sector throughout her career. She served as a member of the Pakistan Nursing Council (PNC) for six years. Currently, she is the President of Pakistan Nurses Federation (PNF) Islamabad-Rawalpindi chapter, continuing her leadership and advocacy for the nursing profession.
  • Dr. Kainat Asmat is Associate Professor and Assistant Dean Graduate Studies & Research. She will be moderating the session.
