“Bazm-e-Taareekh-o-Adab” (Speaker: Dr. Himayatullah Yaqubi)
Left politics in Pakistan is a theme of passionate dialogue among the scholars, historians and political scientists. The era of the first decade after Independence witnessed the suppression of the left and progressive politics by the establishment. However, its orientation and ideas brought unification in the circles of these parties and groups in each province and region of the country. How and under what circumstances these parties were subjected to severe state suppression? What were those factors which brought about unity among these parties? Who were those political figures who were in the forefront in this era of tribulation? All these and similar questions and points will be addressed in the talk.
