SynBio for Food Security: Pakistani High Schoolers Competing in the Biggest Annual Biotech Competition

iGEM Pakistan, a high school team of Beaconhouse students, aims to compete in the biggest annual biotech competition. The purpose of this event is to build awareness about the high school team so that the local STEAM community is aware of the team and they can find potential partners to collaborate with for their iGEM journey. The event will also include presentations from the Head of Community Communications at iGEM, Hassnain Q Bokhari.

About iGEM Pakistan:

iGEM Pakistan will be Pakistan’s first team in the iGEM Competition in almost 7 years. The students are a group of passionate high-schoolers who aim to use Synthetic Biology for Food Security. Their project targets the impact of climate change on agriculture in Pakistan through microbial endophytes.

About iGEM:

The iGEM (International Genetically Engineered Machine) competition is the most prestigious annual international bioengineering competition aimed at university and high school students. Since its inception at MIT in 2003, iGEM has trained over 80,000+ students and professors from 60+ countries. During the iGEM Competition, teams from around the world design and construct biological systems to address real-world issues.
