In the fourth session of this series, we’re hosting Muhammad Asim Butt – a storyteller, novelist, translator, critic, and editor – in conversation with Dr. Ravish Nadeem.
About the Guest:
Muhammad Asim Butt, a storyteller, novelist, translator, critic, and editor, was born in Lahore. His themes often explore the existential dilemmas of modern humanity with elements of fantasy and mystique. Asim Butt holds an MA in Philosophy from Government College University, Lahore, and began his career as a journalist and human rights activist. He currently serves as the Director/Chief Editor at the Pakistan Academy of Letters, Islamabad. One of his notable works, the Urdu novel ‘Naatamaam,’ received the ‘UBL Literary Excellence Award’ and the ‘Parveen Shaker Aks-e-Khushbu Award’ for fiction. He has authored other novels, including ‘Daira,’ ‘Bhaid,’ and ‘Samundar.’ His book of Urdu translations, ‘Borgese Kahaanian,’ was shortlisted for the ‘UBL Literary Excellence Award’ in 2017. Muhammad Asim Butt is also skilled in writing in English and Punjabi. He has simplified the famous Persian tale ‘Qissah Chahaar Darvesh’ into English, titled ‘Story of Four Saints.’ In addition to four novels and two collections of short stories, he has published more than a dozen books of translations of world literature. His works have inspired over 27 research papers at the MA and MPhil levels in various universities and colleges.
