The Big Ideas Screening: Does Math Reveal Reality?

952 952 people viewed this event.

Mathematics has an uncanny ability to describe the physical world. It elegantly explains and predicts features of space, time, matter, energy, and gravity. But is this magnificent scientific articulation an invention of the human mind or is mathematics indelibly imprinted upon the substrate of reality? Brian Greene and leading thinkers (David Albert, Sheldon Goldstein, Silvia Jonas, Max Tegmark) parse the thorny problems of math’s existence.

This Webby-nominated program is part of the Big Ideas series, supported by the John Templeton Foundation.

  • Followed by Q&A Session with Dr. Naqeeb ur Rehman: A mathematician with a PhD earned through the prestigious DAAD research program in Germany. His teaching expertise extends to the university level in the areas of algebra, knot theory, cellular automata, and mathematical philosophy. He has conducted math circles, seminars, and talks across various educational institutions. Besides, he also runs the OpenMathCircle YouTube channel and Facebook page.

This session is free and open to all. Just visit the venue to attend it.
