Join us to explore the impact of the China–Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) over the past nine years. We’ll discuss the economic strides made and the pressing environmental considerations, discovering the balance between development and sustainability in one of the region’s most ambitious projects.

About the speakers:

  • Dr. Agnieszka Nitza-Makowska is an assistant professor and supervisor of Asian Studies at Collegium Civitas, Warsaw, and a Research Fellow at the Asia Centre, University of Tartu, Estonia. She studied international relations at Nottingham Trent University and completed her doctorate at the Polish Academy of Sciences with a thesis on democracy in India and Pakistan. She has taught at SciencesPo in Paris and Humboldt University in Berlin. Her research focuses on soft power, development, sustainable connectivity, and environmental diplomacy, with publications in the International Journal of Cultural Policy and the Journal of Peacebuilding and Development.
  • Dr. Kerry Longhurst is a British academic with degrees from the universities of Wales and Birmingham. She has held academic and research posts in France, Bulgaria, and Poland. Currently, she is the head of the Institute for Politics and International Relations at Collegium Civitas. Her research focuses on EU integration, security studies, and foreign policy, particularly in transition states. She also consults for international organizations on higher education, democracy, and human rights.
  • Muhammad Asim Khan has 20 years of experience in ICT, corporate communication, brand management, and marketing in Pakistan, the US, UAE, Kuwait, Brussels, Romania, Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand. He specializes in strategic planning, policy drafting, and communication strategies. He served as CEO of Eastern Television Network (ETN) and was the Project Director for Development Communication at the Ministry of Planning from 2015 to 2019, where he also acted as the ministry’s spokesperson and focal person for CPEC. Asim has worked with the European Institute for Asian Studies and Digital Processing Systems, Inc. US, implementing major IT projects globally.
