Science Club: The Glowing Universe
Once upon a time, some billions of years ago, when our universe was only about four hundred thousand years old, it was orange in colour. It remained so for a few million years before turning dark. Today, 13+ billion years later, we can see the snapshot of the glowing universe, called the cosmic microwave background (CMB). This image is a treasure trove of information about the early universe.
About the speaker
Dr. Fariha K. Vardag is a theoretical physicist and cosmologist. Her Master/M.Phil was in the late nineties, from Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU), Islamabad, in a then esoteric field of Quantum Computing. After that, she took a career break, and a decade and a half later, joined the Ph.D. programme at QAU. She recently earned her doctorate in the field of theoretical high energy physics and cosmology. Her research interests are in particle physics, inflationary cosmology, grand unified theories, topological defects, Higgs physics and quantum computing.
