The Philosophy of Space and Time
In this talk, we will delve into some of the most intriguing enigmas and timeless debates surrounding the concepts of space and time. Why are we bound to the three dimensions of space rather than existing in 6 or even 60 dimensions? Are alternative spatial geometries conceivable? Moreover, we’ll explore the elusive ‘shape’ of our universe.
Shifting our focus to the realm of time, we’ll explore thought-provoking questions such as the reality of time (inspired by McTaggart’s renowned argument), the question of whether it’s fundamental or emergent, the topology of time and the question of the directionality or “arrow” of time. Furthermore, we’ll contemplate whether time is confined solely to the present moment or if past and future states exist on an equal footing with the present. Lastly, we’ll ponder the intriguing possibility of time travel.
