The Strange World of Infinity
In this talk, the audience will be introduced to the bizarre and counterintuitive world of infinity. Infinity is not a very big number, rather it is something that has no end. Due to its property of endlessness, many weird properties emerge. We will look at these strange properties from the lens of Hilbert’s hotel, where we will discover that there are different “sizes” of infinity. We will look at Zeno’s paradoxes, and see how taming infinity is essential for understanding motion. We will also discuss whether the concept of infinity can be applied to the universe in which we live.
