TBH Astronomy Club: Exploring the Orion Constellation

277 277 people viewed this event.

Join us for a mesmerizing tour of the cosmos in which we will unveil the Orion constellation, one of the most recognized constellations in the night sky. The constellation is named after Orion the Hunter in Greek mythology, who was a giant hunter recognized as the greatest hunter of his time. According to Greek legend, after Orion died, Zeus placed him in the night sky as a memorial to him. Besides the interesting etymology, the constellation of Orion is fascinating in its own right, containing as it does two of the most well-known stars in the night sky: Betelgeuse and Rigel. The constellation also features the instantly recognizable Orion belt, composed of 3 stars and also containing the Orion nebula, an active-star forming region. We will see and discuss all of these during this stargazing session. And if time permits, we will also take a look at the nearly full moon.
