Where is the Working Class? Reflections on Class Politics in the 21st Century
A special lecture to commemorate the 137th International Workers Day
This session features Dr. Aasim Sajjad Akhtar, a long-time left political worker and professor, who will speak about the future of class politics and the challenges of organizing working people in Pakistan.
Despite the fact that working people make up the vast majority of Pakistan’s population, working-class politics has been increasingly marginalized in the country in the three decades since the fall of the Soviet Union and the end of the Cold War.
Join this session to explore how to organize domestic servants, construction workers, landless agricultural laborers, carpet-stitchers, ball-weavers, street vendors, and katchi abadi residents in the unending quest for revolutionary change.
