Braids and Knots in Mathematics

808 808 people viewed this event.

Braids and knots are everywhere in life, such as in art, jewellery, hairdressing, neckties, shoelaces, and molecules etc.  Motivated by their rich mathematical structures and applications in physics, mathematicians also study braids and knots as intertwining of strings and closed curves in space. In this interactive session, Naqeeb ur Rehman discussed the basics of braid groups and knots with strings and diagrams.

Dr. Naqeeb ur Rehman is an assistant professor of mathematics at AIOU, Islamabad. He did his PhD in mathematics in 2016 from the University of Marburg, Germany under a DAAD research program. His areas of interests are in algebra, topology and cellular automata.
