Melodies of Hope by Afghan Girls
While Afghan music school falls silent under Taliban rule, resilient Afghan girls come up with melodies of hope amidst the chaos.
KABUL TRIO
Kabul Trio is a music band of three Afghan girls. The trio was formed in 2019 by Sohaila – the violinist, Munira – the saxophonist, and Raihana – the pianist. Their first piece was composed by Shukria Hameedi and Najib Angar from AFCECO in Kabul. The trio was not able to perform for almost two years due to Covid-19 but recently they have been able to rehearse and perform together.
AFCECO CHOIR
AFCECO Choir was established by one of our graduates, Qudrat Wasefi, in 2017 after his graduation from high school. Qudrat has been working and teaching music at AFCECO Orphanages. The choir consisted of 30 students and performed at various events and ceremonies. The choir sang various compositions of Afghan patriotic and folklore songs.

Munira was raised in Afghan Child education & Care Organisation “AFCECO” orphanages in Kabul. Studying music and Saxophone at the Afghanistan National Institute of Music. She was a member of the “Zohra” orchestra Afghanistan’s first all-female orchestra, the ANIM choir & also a member of the AFCECO choir.
Sohila was raised in Afghan Child education & Care Organisation “AFCECO” orphanages in Kabul. Studying music and Violin at the Afghanistan National Institute of Music. She was a member of the “Zohra” orchestra Afghanistan’s first all-female orchestra, the ANIM choir & also a member of the AFCECO choir.
Raihana was raised in Afghan Child education & Care Organisation “AFCECO” orphanages in Kabul. Studying music and Piano at the Afghanistan National Institute of Music. She was a member of the “Zohra” orchestra Afghanistan’s first all-female orchestra, the ANIM choir & also a member of the AFCECO choir.
Setayesh was raised in Afghan Child education & Care Organisation “AFCECO” orphanages in Kabul. She is a member of the AFCECO choir.
Dunya was raised in Afghan Child education & Care Organisation “AFCECO” orphanages in Kabul. She is a well-talented painter and also a member of the AFCECO choir.
The event also featured poetry and mini art exhibition and guest appearance of Qudrat Wasefi, a renowned Afghan trumpet player.
