Senate of Pakistan is an institution integral to the constitutional framework since 1973. In this session, we’ll discuss the historical evolution, constitutional role and the often-overlooked complexities of its election processes. Join us for a comprehensive discussion, shedding light on the Senate’s significance in representing the diverse interests of Pakistan’s federating units. Gain insights into its theoretical role versus practical workings, with a special focus on the upcoming March 2023 elections.
Discussants:
- Dilawar Hussain: Having previously worked at NUST, he is presently serving as visiting faculty at Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad, where he teaches courses on constitutional and parliamentary history of Pakistan. He has worked as a research fellow at the School of Social and Political Science, University of Edinburgh, Scotland. His areas of specialization include parliamentary, political, constitutional and electoral history of Pakistan.
- Azaz Syed: An Islamabad-based Pakistani journalist and author of “The Secrets of Pakistan’s War on Al.Qaeda,” having over 20 years of experience in investigative journalism. He began his reporting career in 1999 by covering the military coup of Gen. Musharraf and has since contributed groundbreaking scoops to both local and international media. His award-winning reporting spans the war on terror, political developments in Pakistan, and issues related to civil-military imbalance.
